Club Activities
* Weekly Two-hour meetings at St. Martin de Porres Church for court involved Cape Verdean youth to
provide basic principles of citizenship in this country
* Counseling by the Program Director, probation officers, and Cape Verdean/American police about
violence and crime prevention
* Support to youth in graduating from probation
* Education and information about gaining American citizenship
* Health education and referral to social and health services
* Expeditions to museums, movies, cultural events and other enriching activities to provide positive and
rewarding experiences to the youth

Home Visiting
and Family Strengthening
* Home visits for court involved Cape Verdean youth and for youth who are in trouble at school
* Explain legal and immigration systems to parents as appropriate
* Assist family members with other social problems by referring them to ESL classes, health centers and
other social support services as appropriate
Street Outreach
* Seek out and counsel Cape Verdean youth on the streets where they congregate
* Refer youth to educational, social or health resources
* Identify and counsel youth who are on probation about staying out of trouble and following dictates of
probation
* Seek out youths who violated probation to get them back into the system so they can protect their future in
this country
Our Needs
* Volunteer chaperones to take teens to events
* A television and VCR
* Employment opportunities, especially, after school
* Volunteer grant writing and PR work
* Financial contributions [YCVC is a 501(c)3]
* Transportation: YCVC urgently needs a van
* A home in which to welcome teens
* Volunteer mentors for young people
* Persons to give presentations at the weekly meetings on educational and inspirational topics, and Cape
Verdean culture and history
* Tickets to sporting events, movies, musical events, museums or other events of interest to teens

Mission The mission of the Young Cape Verdean Club, Inc., is to provide a safe, supportive community for Cape Verdean young people who are at risk due to probation, immigration problems, or school and family issues with the goal of helping them develop life skills and non-violent approaches to problem solving. The Club provides advocates for the youth with the community institutions which impact their lives and encourage them to take leadership in their community and the wider world.
